Ipswich-based Switch Studios is responsible for developing all of Microgaming's casino table games. Although the studio was founded only in 2017, it has already garnered a reputation for creating high-quality games in terms of visual presentation and innovative gameplay mechanics, and European Roulette is a case in point. Other examples of the studio's body of work when it comes to recreating popular table games in a virtual space include American Roulette and European Blackjack.

European Roulette Game Design

Switch Studios has created something special with title, and the same can be said for all of their other online table games. Load up European Roulette, and players get shown a virtual rendition of a classic roulette table complete with green baize, red and black numbers and several options/symbols mapped across the bottom of the screen. Place a bet, and the view switches to a stylish rendition of the roulette table in elegant lacquered wood with a vertically positioned version of the roulette table occupying the right side of the screen. Although the game doesn't seem to have a music track, Switch Studios has still included several thoughtful details, such as the sound of the ball spinning around the roulette wheel and the voice of a virtual dealer reading out the numbers the ball stops at.

European Roulette Rules

Quick Summary

European Roulette is played using the traditional European rule set. The objective in this online roulette game is to predict the number on which the ball will land by placing one or more bets that cover that number. The roulette wheel includes the numbers 1 - 36 plus a single 0, or zero.

Placing a bet requires selecting the purple chip button in the bottom centre of the screen, followed by the chip size. Place your bet(s) and press the SPIN button. The action moves to the roulette wheel, which then spins, and the ball rests in one of the numbered pockets. You win if the number is covered in your bet(s).

Bet Types

Different regular betting options based on the European rule set are available in this online casino game. These are known as inside and outside bets. Racetrack bets are also available alongside standard betting options like red or black or picking a single number.

Inside Bets

Inside Bets are bets placed on the numbered spaces in the betting area.

• Straight Up = chip is placed directly on a single number, including 0.
• Split Bet = chip goes on the horizontal or vertical line between two numbers.
• Street Bet = chip goes on the end of any row of three numbers.
• Corner Bet = chip goes on the central intersection of four numbers.
• Line Bet = chip goes on the end of two rows at the intersection between two rows. The line bet covers all the numbers in both rows (so a total of six).

Outside Bets

Outside Bets are placed in the special area below and to the side of the main betting area.

• Column Bet = chip goes in one of the “2 to 1” boxes at the end of the column that covers all twelve numbers in that column.
• Dozen Bet = chip is placed in one of the three boxes marked 1st 12, 2nd 12 or 3rd 12 to cover the 12 numbers alongside the board.
• Even-Money Bet = a bet on 18 numbers. The chip is placed on one of the following boxes: Even, Odd, Red, Black, 1-18 or 19-36.

Neighbour & Call Bets

Selecting the RACETRACK option in the bottom-centre of the screen reveals a special oval or racetrack-shaped betting area that allows players to place neighbour and call bets. Neighbour Bets are bets placed on the neighbouring numbers of a Straight Up bet and get allocated as the numbers appear on the roulette wheel (not the roulette table). Call Bets are multiple number bets grouped on the roulette table.

Favourites & Special Bets

Players can create and easily place their favourite bets on the roulette table Using the FAVOURITES option. Creating a group of favourite bets is as simple as selecting the FAVOURITES option followed by one of the + ADD buttons. Placing a favourite bet is as easy as selecting a created Favourite Bet and pressing Place. With Special Bets, players can quickly place Call Bets.

Keeping Track

The enhanced in-game statistics option is a handy tool. Stats can be viewed by clicking the STATISTICS option in the screen's bottom-left and selecting the statistics button to gain useful information from the last 100 spins.
